Supervisor Koetzle Announces Recent Grants to Improve Parks, Boost Pedestrian Trails

$760,000 in State Grants for Kayak Launch, Pedestrian Connections

Town Supervisor Chris Koetzle announced that the town was recently awarded two state grants totally over $760,000 that will help fund improvements to the town parks and help continue the town's efforts to further build pedestrian trails connecting our neighborhoods, business corridor and the parks.

$150,000 will be given for the Maalwyck Park Kayak Launch project that will allow the town to construct a car-top boat launch and better connect that great park to the waterfront. An additional over $610,000 will be provided to support the construction of a pedestrian path on Van Buren Road that will connect two parks (Anderson and Indian Meadows) to the Town Center and two major neighborhoods (Woodhaven and St. Stephens/Bigwood/Berkely Square).

These projects have long been part of the town’s strategy to improve our parks, increase recreational opportunities, and continue the town's grand vision of making more pedestrian connections. This Van Buren trail is the missing link in a much larger network of trails. These many new pedestrian trails are critical so that residents can participate in healthier activities, reduce carbon emissions, and engage in alternate modes of transportation. This is all in addition to the town’s recent efforts to bring pedestrian trails to Alplaus, along Freemans Bridge Rd, on Dutch Meadows Lane, to schools in three districts and along the river that connects Glenville to Scotia.

Additionally, the recently adopted town budget allows for a pedestrian trail to be constructed in Maalwyck Park and provides for additional investments in the town's newest park, Legacy Park.
