Fire District #7: Thomas Corners

Souvenir Program Thomas Corners Dedication

No. 7- Thomas Corners

At a meeting of the Thomas Corners Civic Association in the fall of 1947, Oscar Held made the motion that a company of volunteer firemen be organized. The first regular meeting of the fire company was held in the basement auditorium of the Thomas Corners School on October 4, 1948.

Among the first officers were: Leon LaFrance, Chief; Walter Champ, Asst. Chief; Thomas Wilson, President; Robert Hummer, Vice President. In 1949, the Company was incorporated and the Town Board established Fire District No. 7. The first fire commissioners were John H. Peterson, Chairman, Clifford Schairer, Lyman Scherer, George Angle, Robert Allison, and E. Ted Carroll, Secretary-Treasurer.

A plot was purchased on Airport Road, and the firehouse was built by Hanson Construction Co. The Sanford Fire Equipment Co. was the successful bidder on a 500-gallon pumper, which was delivered in 1950. In the following year, a tanker built by the Ronin Co. of Albany was added. The firehouse was enlarged in 1954, and another Ronin tanker acquired. The building was completely remodeled and doubled in size in 1966.
