Fire District #6: West Glenville

  • On October 2, 1944, the West Glenville Volunteer Fire Company was organized by 32 men and women members equipped with Office of Civilian Defense (OCD) hand pumps, sirens, pumper trailer and 1936 Diamond T truck. Foster Dupont was the first President, and Louis Weber was the first Chief. Reinhart Krutz served as the first Vice-President and first deputy chief. 
  • In 1945, the pump and 600 gallon tank were mounted on the Diamond T truck.
  • In 1946, the OCD equipment was purchased for $420.  A  ladies auxiliary was formed in December 1946.
  • In January 1947, the Town of Glenville Fire District No. 6 (West Glenville) was organized. West Glenville Fire Company incorporated under New York State law in August 1949. The first fire commissioners were Allan D. Marshall, William Stock, Charles D. Greentree, Harmon Swart, and Frank Bigwood. A lot was purchased, and the first firehouse was a prefabricated building constructed by the firemen.
  • In 1951, a 1949 Ford truck chassis was purchased. It was equipped with front-mounted pump, 900 gallon tank, ladders, hose and tools over a 3-year period. The 1936 Diamond T Truck was retired.
  • In 1954, a 1954 International fire truck was purchased with front-mounted pump and 900 gallon tank.
  • In 1960, War surplus ¾ ton weapons carrier purchased. It was equipped with a 100 gallon tank, pump and tools for fighting grass and woods fires
  • In 1965, a new fire station was built by Fazzone Construction Co., following plans by Henri Durieux, with three truck bays, a meeting room, and a kitchen. A formal dedication ceremony was held September 11, 1965.
  • In 1968, a 1953 Ford fire truck was purchased from the Galway Fire District and rebuilt with front-mounted pump and 900 gallon tank. The 1940 Ford truck was retired
  • In 1975, a 1945 Ward LaFrance fire truck was purchased from KAPL and rebuilt. It was equipped with our first center-mounted pump (1200 gpm). The weapons carrier was retired.
  • In 1977, a 1957 Ward LaFrance fire truck was purchased from the Beukendaal Fire District and rebuilt. The 1954 International fire truck was retired.
  • In 1985, a 1967 American LaFrance diesel/automatic fire truck was purchased from East Glenville Fire District and rebuilt. The 1953 Ford truck was retired.
