  • In 1943, a group of citizens in East Glenville petitioned the town to start a fire department, realizing they needed fire protection as their population grew. The first fire truck was a donated Chevrolet oil truck pulling a trailer with a Civil Defense pump mounted on it. Two of the first firemen, Ray Stine and Roy Safford, purchased a two-stall garage to store the makeshift fire truck. The fire district eventually paid them back.
  • The state approved the creation of Fire District #3 in 1944. The fire district was able to pay Stine and Safford back for the garage, and they ordered a new 1944 Sanford pumper and a new Ford chassis for the tanker. While on strike, General Electric workers rebuilt the original garage. The building was continually remodeled until 1953, when a new fire station was constructed. The fire department then bought an American Fire Apparatus pumper on a Ford chassis. East Glenville quickly became one of the best trained and best equipped fire departments in the county.
  • The following year, as the community continued to expand, the fire department purchased an inhalator, a piece of equipment that helps patients breathe. The number of emergency medical calls increased greatly, leading the purchase of an EMS vehicle.
  • In 1962, the department purchased an American LaFrance pumper and an American LaFrance combination truck.
  • In 1964, Water District #11 began supplying municipal water to all of Fire District #3. This allowed for the installation of fire hydrants throughout the district.
