Passport to Glenville

Take the Tour!

Glenville's local restaurants are open! ...as are several other businesses that have shifted service models to meet patron's needs. In response to the State mandate closing nonessential businesses and restaurant dining areas, several owners had to significantly change how to provide goods and services. The closures really hit businesses and residents pretty hard. Town Supervisor Christopher Koetzle developed several marketing promotions to build community and join residents together in supporting one another.

"The local business owners are part of our community. Out of consideration for patrons, many changed their business model to takeout, delivery and curbside pick-up, limiting customer exposure as much as possible during the pandemic. Several restaurants offered free meals to Glenville senior citizens, including Glenville Queen, Benevento's and Codino's which manufacturers frozen pastas. The spirit of giving isn't unusual for Glenville's local businesses. Local business owners are often among the first to donate to local teams, events and causes. The Town decided it was time to give back to our local businesses."

Across the board small businesses worry that reopening won't recoup the economic losses suffered during the closures. Even after reopening, patrons and employees may worry about catching COVID-19 and hesitate to enter store fronts. Disposable income will be in short supply due to job losses. Physical spaces have to be reimagined and provision of service will forever be altered. Even so it will take months to become accustomed to the new order and rebound from the losses.

The Passport program is the second supporting local businesses. Takeout Week was held the week of March 22nd-29th. The theme of 1820 - with restaurants offering specials that cost $18.20 - was to commemorate the Town's 200th birthday. More upcoming special events will be posted on Facebook, Linkedin and on the Town website.
