NYS Urban Forestry Council Supports Planting 200 Trees

Glenville Becomes a Tree City!

Glenville appreciates NYS Urban Forestry Council. NYSUFC provided partial funding for Glenville's bicentennial 200 trees. And UFC is an excellent resource for tree care information. If you visit their website they posted a blog about our tree planting! https://nysufc.org/quick-start-grant-recipient-town-of-glenville-achieve...

What led Glenville to plant 200 trees?

The effort was truly coordinated. Glenville celebrates 200 years since its 1820 incorporation. The town had planned a series of events: a specialty beer developed by Wolf Hollow Brewing, Yates Mansion events, Town Board meetings at area public assembly areas, weekend talks about the many facets of Glenville, a Gala celebration at ESAM, a Stewarts ice cream in honor of the bicentennial, and planting 200 trees at the  annual Love my Park/Earth Day/Arbor Day celebration. The pandemic moved most of the events online or resulted in cancellations.

The broader tree program resulted from the town reaching out for NYSDEC guidance on addressing tree maintenance in the face of disease and infestations. The path led to Arbor Day Foundation Tree City status and NYS Urban Forestry Council funding and informational resources for developing a tree program. Glenville passed a Tree Ordinance, authorized a Tree Board, and developed a tree maintenance manual. The program continues to grow.
