Senior Citizen Tax Exemptions:

Certain senior citizens may qualify for a property tax exemption on their primary residence ONLY, if they are at least 65 years old and the annual income is below a NYS prescribed limit.

There are two (2) possible property tax exemptions:

  • Enhanced STAR exemption
    • The maximum adjusted gross income limit for the enhanced STAR exemption for the 2024 school year is $98,700.
    • This exemption does not apply if you recently converted your BASIC STAR to ENHANCED STAR, or if you currently receive the STAR rebate check.
  • Low-Income Senior Citizens exemption.
    • The maximum re-calculated income limit for the Low-Income Senior Citizens Exemption is $37,399.

To qualify for either exemption, you must have reached the age of 65 and your income must remain under the threshold’s noted above.

2024 Volunteer Firefighters and Volunteer Ambulance Workers Property Tax Exemption:

Instructions to apply:

To apply for this exemption, the volunteer firefighter/ambulance worker must bring the following documentation to the assessor’s office:

  • A completed application for Volunteer Firefighters/Ambulance Workers Exemption (NYS Form 466-a-vol), click here and
  • A completed Certification of Enrollment Letter signed by the Dept Chief, Secretary, or Chair of the Board of Commissioners, click here and
  • Proof of primary residence (copy of driver’s license)

 

The deadline to apply for all exemptions is March 1, 2024.
