Notice Regarding the Town's Bulk Pick Up Program

It has come to the town’s attention that there are numerous items being placed to the curb as part of the town’s bulk pick up program.  Instead of sending individual notices of violation, the town would like to remind residents that certain items will not be picked up by the vendor (County Waste).  These items include tires, TV’s, household chemicals, loose trash, demolition material, and refrigerators among other items.  A complete list can be found at the town’s website.  Additionally, piles are not to exceed 4ftx8ftx4ft as per the vendor’s rules.  Non-authorized items left at the curb may result in a notice of violation from the Code Enforcement Office.

Additionally, for the safety of our residents, there is a “No Scavenger Law” in the town of Glenville.  Those picking through bulk waste may be subject to fine or other penalties.  This law is not intended to prevent a resident from “giving away” an item or to prevent two people from engaging in trade.  However, in many cases, the picking of such items has created an unsafe traffic environment in many of our neighbors and has prevented the carrier from claiming the recyclables that helped offset the cost of this program to the taxpayers.  We ask that the pickers refrain from large-scale scavenging within the town.
