DOG LICENSING
All dogs 4 months of age or older must be licensed as required by New York State Law.
Dog licenses can be purchased at:

Proof of current rabies vaccination is required for all dog licenses.
A certificate of proof is required if the dog is spayed or neutered.
FEES
Spayed and neutered dogs: $12.50 (includes $10.00 local fee)
Unspayed and unneutered dogs: $20.50 (includes $10.00 local fee)
Dogs owned by person’s over 65 years of age are exempt from the $10.00 local fee.
Registered purebred dogs: if no more than 10 (ten) $25.00
Registered purebred dogs: if no more than 25 (twenty five) $50.00
Registered purebred dogs: if more than 25 (twenty five) $100.00
Guide dogs, war dogs, hearing dogs and service dogs are exempt from fees.
Licenses are required to be renewed yearly.
IDENTIFICATION
At the time of purchase, the dog owner will receive a Department of Agriculture and Markets identification tag.
This tag shall be affixed to the dogs collar at all times.
Having the tag affixed to the dog’s collar is very important. The tag’s 7-digit number identifies the dog and its owner.
The communications section of the Glenville Police Department has 24 hour a day access to these dog license numbers. If a dog is found that bares an identification number issued by the clerk’s office, information about the dog and its owner is obtained and the owner can be notified that the dog was found and both can be reunited.
ARTICLE 7 OF THE AGRICULTURE AND MARKETS LAW
Section 106. Purpose:
The purpose of this article is to provide for the licensing and identification of dogs, the control and protection of the dog population and the protection of persons, property, domestic animals and deer from dog attack and damage.
VIOLATIONS
Section 119-1
a) Any owner to fail to license any dog as required by this article;
b) Any owner to fail to have any dog identified as required by this article;
c) Any person to knowingly affix to any dog any false or improper identification tag, special identification tag for identifying guide, service, hearing dogs or purebred license tag;
d) Any owner of any dangerous dog to fail to confine or destroy such dog upon order of any judge or justice as provided in section one hundred twenty-one of this article;
e) Any owner to fail to securely confine any dog as required by an order issued pursuant to section one hundred twenty-two or one hundred twenty-three of this article;
f) Any owner or custodian of any dog to fail to confine, restrain or present such dog for any lawful purpose pursuant to this article;
g) Any person to furnish any false or misleading information on any form required to be filed with any municipality or the commissioner pursuant to the provisions of this article or rules and regulations promulgated pursuant thereto.
PENALTIES FOR OFFENSES
Violations are prosecuted pursuant to the penal law and shall be punishable by a fine of not more than twenty-five dollars ($25.00), except that where the person was found to have violated this section or former article seven of this chapter within the preceding five years the fine may not be more that fifty dollars ($50.00). Where the person was found to have committed two or more such violations within the preceding five years, it shall be punishable by a fine of not more than one hundred dollars ($100.00) or imprisonment for not more than fifteen days or both.
TOWN OF GLENVILLE CODE
CHAPTER 88, DOGS, ARTICLE, GENERAL REGULATION
Purpose:
The purpose of this article is to provide for the prohibition of certain acts of dogs and the protection of persons and property from dogs.
VIOLATIONS
Section 88-1 Certain acts prohibited:
A. - It shall be unlawful for any owner of or any person harboring any dog outside the boundaries of any incorporated village in the Town of Glenville to permit or allow such dog to:
(1) Run at large while off the premises of its owner or person harboring such dog unless said dog is restrained by an adequate leash, a maximum length of 8
(eight) feet, or accompanied by its owner or a responsible person able to control such dog, except when such dog is on property with the express consent of the person owning, leasing or otherwise responsible for such property. For the purposes of this ordinance, a dog or dogs hunting in company with a hunter or hunters shall be considered as accompanied by its owner.
(2) Cause unnecessary noise across a residential real property boundary so as to unreasonably disturb the comfort or repose of any person in the vicinity. Specifically, no dog shall be allowed to bark for a period in excess of 15 minutes when said barking is audible from beyond the property line of the owner's residence. The barking may be intermittent and not continuous.
(3) Cause damage or destruction to property or commit a nuisance upon the premises of a person other than the owner or person harboring such dog.
(4) Chase or otherwise harass any persons peaceably conducting themselves in such a manner as reasonably to cause intimidation or to put such person in reasonable apprehension of bodily harm or injury.
(5) Habitually chase or bark at motor vehicles not on the premises of the owner or person harboring such dog.
B. - Restraint of dogs in Town Parks. All dogs in any town park must be restrained by a leash or similar restraint, in such a manner as to not disturb or endanger other park users.
Section 88-2 Female dogs in heat:
It shall be unlawful for the owner or person harboring any female dog to permit such dog to run at large when in heat and such dog shall be confined to the premises of such person during such period.
TOWN OF GLENVILLE CODE
CHAPTER 195, PARK REGULATIONS
Section 195-14. Purpose:
The purpose of this article is to adopt general rules and regulations for the government and protection of park lands in the Town of Glenville, and to provide for the enforcement thereof.
VIOLATION
Section 195-17. Dogs and pets:
All dogs and pets must be confined to the immediate area of the owner and restrained by a leash or similar restraint, in such a manner as to not disturb or endanger other park users. Owners are required to pick up their animal droppings.
PENALTIES FOR OFFENSES
Section 88-6. Penalties for offenses. [Amended 2-21-1990 by L.L. No. 1-1990; 1-22-2003 by L.L. No. 1-2003]
Any person who violates this article or knowingly permits the violation of this article or any of the provisions hereof shall be deemed to have committed an offense against this article; and any person convicted of any such violation shall be liable to a penalty of not more than $250 or 15 days in jail or both.
SHELTER SERVICES
The Town of Glenville currently contracts with The Happy Dog Pet Hotel, 1197 Mariaville Road, Rotterdam, NY 12306, to house stray dogs that are seized.
Directions: From Rotterdam Mall, take Putnam Road, (across from mall) for 1.8miles; Left on Mariaville Road/NY-159 at the flashing red stop light. Regular hours are Monday thru Friday, 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM; legal holidays and emergencies excluded.
