Snow Removal
Snow removal in the Town is of utmost importance to Town officials.  It is our policy to clear streets of snow and ice as soon as possible. The Town, attempts to perform this task in a professionally, competently and quick manner.  It must be remembered that this is no small task since we have over 94 center-line miles [meaning 188 true miles] of roadways.

To best serve your needs we would like to remind you that your full cooperation is appreciative.
Problems often occurs when Town residents leave their vehicles in the Town streets.  This hinders our snowplowing operation.  It would assist us if you make sure your vehicle is in your driveway, and not in the street, when a storm begins.

This is a request by the Superintendent of Highways and by the operators of the snowplows.  Please help us by keeping your vehicles off the streets from the start to the end of a snow storm.

Wing Cuts
When the ground is not frozen and the plows are pushing back snow to widen the roadway, sometimes lawn damage or wing cuts, occur.  It is our policy that in early spring each operator check and make any necessary repairs to their route.  It is illegal to place any private property, ie. sprinkler systems, rocks, fences, etc. in the Town's right-of-way.   Any damages made to private property place in the Town's right-of-way will not be the responsibility of the Town.
Mailbox Repairs
Mailboxes are placed in the Town's right-of-way for the residents and post office convenience.  Mailbox should be placed at a height of 48" to 60" for clearance of the snow plows.  Should a mailbox become damaged during a snow storm resident should call the Highway Department at 382-1406.  The damage will then be assessed by Town personnel.  If determined damage caused by Town plow, we will make the necessary repair at a cost not to exceed $50.00 which will consist of a wooden post and/or standard metal box, which ever is needed.
